Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System is seeking an Environmental Services Worker to perform cleaning and related tasks across patient rooms, nursing units, offices and clinical areas to maintain a sanitary environment.

Under supervision, duties include replenishing supplies, waste disposal, safety compliance, and operation of cleaning equipment. Requires a High School Diploma / GED or 1 year of housekeeping experience; English proficiency is essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma / GED or 1 year facility housekeeping experience required.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
• Ability to operate cleaning equipment safely.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relationships with staff and public.
• Ability to operate high powered cleaning equipment.
• Ability to use bed tracking systems.

Responsibilities

• Replenishes or replaces expendable supplies in a timely manner.
• Empties trash containers and cleans exterior of trash cans.
• Transports trash and hazardous waste to disposal area.
• Observes safety procedures and reports hazards to Supervisor.
• Cleans patient rooms, lobbies, hallways, offices and other internal areas.
• Operates cleaning equipment such as buffers, scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, shampooers and steam machines.
• Attends annual Compliance Program training (HIPAA).
• Performs related work as assigned.
