Job summary

Saint Francis Hospital is seeking a Public Safety Constable to serve as the frontline of our Public Safety Team. The role involves armed security to protect staff, patients, visitors, and hospital property, reporting to the Public Safety Supervisor on duty.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, valid driver’s license with a good driving record, EVO license within one year, and ongoing weapon certifications. CPR/AED within 6 months; two years of related experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record; EVO license within 1 year.
• Maintain weapon certifications per Delaware standards.
• CPR and AED certification within 6 months.
• Prior law enforcement experience preferred.
• Meet Constable requirements (Delaware) within 18 months.
• Two years’ experience in law enforcement, security, or public service; hospital experience preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication with crisis-management skills.
• Able to deal tactfully with colleagues, patients, and visitors.
• IAHSS Advanced Training Certificate or higher within 6 months and maintain it.

Responsibilities

• Provide frontline public safety service for staff, patients, and visitors.
• Operate in armed capacity to protect people and property.
• Report to Public Safety Supervisor on duty.
• Comply with core values and safety protocols; participate in crisis management as needed.
• Overtime may be required during staffing shortages or exigent situations.
