Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking a phlebotomist to perform phlebotomy on inpatients and outpatients, following hospital guidelines. You will work a 4a-12:30p shift with rotating weekends and holidays, contributing to prompt specimen collection and accurate test results.

Responsibilities include using SOPs for basic diagnostics, operating lab equipment, and communicating effectively with clinical staff to ensure high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Completion of a phlebotomy education program or allied health education program that includes phlebotomy education and a minimum of 50 successful unaided veniputures.
• Qualification to perform phlebotomy by one or more of the following criteria: AMT, NCA or ASCP; NAACLS accredited phlebotomy program; 100 unaided collections by venipuncture and capillary collection.
• Phlebotomy experience in a hospital or clinic setting.

Responsibilities

• Performs blood collection using established guidelines to obtain specimens for diagnostic/therapeutic procedures.
• Follows standard procedures to perform basic diagnostic procedures and produce accurate results.
• Operates basic lab equipment including centrifuges and computer systems according to SOPs.
• Restocks work area with supplies to assist co-workers.
• Complies with patient care requirements for all age groups as required by SOPs.
• Collects specimens promptly to minimize delays and wastage.
• Completes workload within established time frames and maintains efficient operations.
• Maintains effective communication with laboratory sections, nursing staff, and patients to resolve problems.
