UPMC Mercy offers a Casual Pharmacy Intern position to support our Pharmacy team in Pittsburgh. The internship provides hands-on experience and progressive development of operational and clinical skills while adhering to regulations and hospital policies.

Intern shifts include daylight/evening/weekend/holiday requirements, with scheduling discussed during interviews. The role supports medication distribution, IV admixtures, and medication reviews under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assists the pharmacist with medication distribution, delivering medication, refilling automated dispensing cabinets, and exchanging emergency medication carts.
• Participate in filling of medication orders maintaining patient profiles, performing prepackaging.
• Prepare IV admixtures/chemotherapy and controlled substance orders.
• Assists the pharmacist with medication review, including computer order entry, monitoring allergies, enforcing formulary decisions, and evaluating drug interactions.
• Complete departmental documentation and billing by the end of each scheduled shift in accordance with procedures.
• Complete clinical workload documentation (manual or electronic) by the end of each scheduled shift.
• Effectively uses information systems, robotics, and other applications to prepare medication labels and assist with dispensing medications.
• Demonstrate a service orientation in all interpersonal relations.
• Prepare drug information responses and medication use evaluations.
• Develops and maintains a clean, organized, and adequately stocked work environment.
• Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
