Job summary

Methodist Hospital for Surgery in Addison, TX seeks a licensed hospital pharmacist with a Doctor of Pharmacy or higher and at least 3 years of hospital experience to oversee dispensing, compounding, and drug information for patients.

You will supervise interns and pharmacy technicians, ensure compliance with policies, review orders, manage inventory, and educate staff on medication use and safety.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in pharmacy.
• At least 3 years of experience in a hospital pharmacy.
• Must have a current license in the state of Texas.
• Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with physicians and hospital staff.

Responsibilities

• Educate healthcare professionals and patients on medication use as well as compounding and dispensing prescribed medications for patient care.
• Performs professional and technical activities associated with distribution of medications, maintenance of drug inventory, patient records and patient financial records.
• Supervises interns and technicians for assigned area. Adheres to policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure compliance and patient safety.
• Accepts total responsibility for orders including review, clarification, order entry, accuracy, preparation, follow up and delivery to correct unit. Identifies, intervenes, and resolves problems involving drug therapy.
• Visually reads and interprets physician’s orders including drug product, strength, dosage, start/stop time, inventory quantity, etc. Assures correct product selection for dose accuracy.
• Routinely follows internal procedures to verify controlled substance inventories, minimize drug diversion and document wastes or missing doses.
• Routinely checks for expired drugs.
