  • Accepts total responsibility for orders including review, clarification, order entry, accuracy, preparation, follow up and delivery to correct unit. Identifies, intervenes, and resolves problems involving drug therapy.
  • Visually reads and interprets physician’s orders including drug product, strength, dosage, start/stop time, inventory quantity, etc. Assures correct product selection for dose accuracy.
  • Routinely follows internal procedures to verify controlled substance inventories, minimize drug diversion and document wastes or missing doses.
  • Routinely checks for expired drugs.

Description

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

  • Compounds and dispenses prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals for patient care, according to professional standards and state and federal legal requirements: Reviews prescriptions issued by physician, or other authorized prescriber to assure accuracy and determine formulas and ingredients. Directs pharmacy employees in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals. Answers questions and provides information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage of pharmaceuticals.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or an advanced degree in pharmacy required.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a hospital pharmacy preferred.
  • Must have a current license in the state of Texas.
  • Interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively with physicians and various other hospital personnel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
