Job summary

Mount Sinai Morningside is seeking a Transporter/Messenger to move patients, supplies, equipment, and medical charts quickly and safely within the campus. You will support care teams and ensure patient records accompany patients to their destinations, while maintaining accurate tracking and safe transport practices.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous work experience in hospital setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Sorts and delivers inter-office/incoming mail and packages accurately and in a timely manner.
• Arrives on unit with appropriate mode of patient transportation.
• Introduces patient to self and destination; confirms patient identity with ID band.
• Assists care givers in moving patient on and off different modes of transport.
• Ensures patient’s chart accompanies the patient to their designated area.
• Ensures patients are appropriately dressed/covered for transportation.
• Utilizes designated elevators to transport patients in a timely manner.
• Follows proper Patient Tracking procedures (logging in & out, in-progress, completions, delays).
• Redistributes rolling stock (wheelchairs, stretchers).
• Responds to codes for transport needs.
• Ensures transportation equipment is safe, clean and accessible.
• Provides elevator operator services and audiovisual support.
• Ensures equipment is positioned and locked when stationary.
• Ensures side rails remain up as indicated.
• Ensures bedside articles are within patient reach.
• Notifies staff of patient status and transportation changes.
• Communicates effectively with health care team.
