Job summary

Trinity Health Brighton is seeking a part-time Hospital Transporter to move patients safely between care areas and diagnostic/test zones. You’ll work closely with nurses and doctors to ensure smooth transfers and maintain patient comfort.

You will communicate with patients and families, assist with restroom needs, and use transfer devices. Ongoing duties include equipment management, oxygen tank replacement, and staying current with BLS certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED recommended.
• Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic.
• Prior healthcare experience is not required.
• Maintain current BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Transport stable, non-monitored patients between care areas and diagnostic/testing areas.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, visitors, and direct care providers.
• Speak with the RN/Healthcare Provider prior to transport and when the patient returns to the unit.
• Assist the patient with restroom needs as necessary.
• Safely transfer patients using a transfer device (sling, slide board, etc.).
• Clean transport equipment between patients.
• Transport, locate, and redistribute equipment (stretchers, wheelchairs, oxygen, etc.).
• Replace oxygen tanks as needed (less than 500 psi).
• Provide directions to families and visitors.
• Maintain current BLS certification.
• Attend departmental meetings and continuing educational activities.

Required Qualifications

Education

High school diploma or GED recommended. Basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic.

Experience

Prior healthcare experience is not required.

What you will do

• Transport stable, non-monitored patients from patient care areas to and from diagnostic/ testing areas (such as CT, X-ray, Angio, Hemo) and to inpatient units for admissions.
• Able to effectively communicate with the patient, family, visitors, and the direct care providers.
• Transporters are to directly speak with the RN or the Healthcare Provider prior to a transport and when the patient returns to the unit.
• Transporters are to assist the patient with his/her restroom needs as necessary.
• Able to safely transfer patients using a transfer device such as a patient sling, slide board, or other hospital approved transfer devices.
• Cleans transport equipment between each patient use.
• Transport, locate, and redistribute equipment such as stretchers, wheelchairs, Airpals, Stryker Glides, oxygen, and other necessary equipment to perform transports.
• Replaces oxygen tanks as needed (less than 500 psi).
• Provides directions to families and/or visitors.
• Maintains current BLS certification.
• Attends and participates in departmental meetings and continuing educational activities.
