Job summary

Dartmouth Health is seeking a patient transporter to ensure safe, courteous, and timely transfer of patients and clinical information within the campus. You will utilize the EPIC system for pick-up, delivery, delays, and changes of assignments, while verifying patient name bands and maintaining equipment.

The role requires transporting patients of all ages, supporting nursing with vented patients, and ensuring proper use of transfer devices.

Qualifications

  • High-School diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
  • Previous hospital experience preferred.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification within 90 days of hire date and maintained with renewal on bi annual basis.
  • CHT (Certified Healthcare Transporter) within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Transport patients/visitors within campus via wheelchair, stretcher, bed or wheelchair.
  • Verify patient name bands prior to each transport.
  • Maintain stretchers, equipment and supplies; clean and disinfect.
  • Respond to outside hospital transport requests and coordinate with nursing staff.
  • Escort ambulatory patients and transfer patients using safe equipment.

Job description

Responsible for the safe, courteous and timely "patient centered" transport of patients and various forms of clinical information within the campus. Respond to directions in a courteous and professional manner. Utilizes e-DH EPIC system regarding the pick-up, delivery, completion, delays and changes of assignment. Transports patients / visitors of all ages, via wheelchair, stretcher, bed, morgue cart, to and from lobbies, clinical, ancillary, and support departments. Patient name bands must be verified prior to each transport. Functions independently. Escorts ambulatory patients. Performs surface to surface transfer of patients during the transport process as required. Transfers all patients and related items using appropriate equipment including: SLIPP Sheets, Slide Boards, Hover Mat, beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, Hoyer Lifts, and patient room ceiling lifts. Support nursing with "Vented Patients" and respond to outside patient transport requests. Maintain stretchers, stretcher mattresses, and wheelchairs, IV poles and bases, O2 holders, including inventory, preventive maintenance, and cleaning, disinfect, and "make up" stretchers with sheets. Exchange mattresses as requested on floor. Set up traction within the hospital. Maintain, clean and organize traction supplies. Perform traction roundup as necessary. Make requests for new equipment / supplies as necessary. A High-School diploma or equivalent preferred but not required. Previous hospital experience preferred. On the job training provided. BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification within 90 days of hire date and maintained with renewal on bi annual basis. CHT (Certified Healthcare Transporter) within 6 months of hire.

  • Work Status: Monday - Friday 11:30-8 pm e/o weekend, rotation holidays. Weekend hours will be 7am - 3:30 PM;
