Job summary

Trinity Health Brighton is seeking a part-time Hospital Transport staff member to safely transfer patients between care areas and diagnostic facilities. You will communicate with care teams, assist with patient needs, and handle equipment logistics as part of daily transport duties.

Responsibilities include ensuring safe transfers, maintaining equipment, and staying current with BLS certification while participating in departmental meetings and ongoing education.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED recommended; basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.
• Prior healthcare experience is not required.

Responsibilities

• Transport stable, non-monitored patients between care areas and diagnostic/testing areas.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, visitors and direct care providers.
• Speak with the RN or healthcare provider prior to and after transports to update them on patient status.
• Assist patients with restroom needs when necessary.
• Safely transfer patients using hospital-approved devices such as slings or transfer boards.
• Clean transport equipment between uses.
• Relocate equipment like stretchers, wheelchairs, and oxygen as needed for transports.
• Replace oxygen tanks as required (less than 500 psi).
• Provide directions to families/visitors.
• Maintain current BLS certification.
• Attend departmental meetings and educational activities.

Transfer and transport patients safely and effectively from patient care areas to and from diagnostic/ testing areas.

Required Qualifications:

Education

• High school diploma or GED recommended. Basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic.

Experience

• Prior healthcare experience is not required.

What you will do:

• Transport stable, non-monitored patients from patient care areas to and from diagnostic/ testing areas (such as CT, X-ray, Angio, Hemo) and to inpatient units for admissions.
• Able to effectively communicate with the patient, family, visitors, and the direct care providers.
• Transporters are to directly speak with the RN or the Healthcare Provider prior to a transport and when the patient returns to the unit.
• Transporters are to assist the patient with his/her restroom needs as necessary.
• Able to safely transfer patients using a transfer device such as a patient sling, slide board, or other hospital approved transfer devices.
• Cleans transport equipment between each patient use.
• Transport, locate, and redistribute equipment such as stretchers, wheelchairs, Airpals, Stryker Glides, oxygen, and other necessary equipment to perform transports.
• Replaces oxygen tanks as needed (less than 500 psi).
• Provides directions to families and/or visitors.
• Maintains current BLS certification.
• Attends and participates in departmental meetings and continuing educational activities.
