Qualifications

• Two years of hospital and/or pre-hospital experience in stabilization and transport required.
• Current Oklahoma Paramedic license, BLS, and ACLS (within 3 months) required.

Responsibilities

• Provides care per established policies; carries out treatment plans with patients and families.
• Observes and reports on patient conditions; contributes to care plan development.
• Takes vital signs, attaches monitors, performs ECGs, and manages IVs.

General Description:

Functions under the administrative guidance of the shift supervisor or manager to provide services to emergency patients. Under the clinical direction of the Emergency Department Physician, collects and conveys information to the physician and licensed nurse regarding the health status of patients.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Provides care in accordance with established policies and procedures of OU Health.
• Carries out treatment plans in collaboration with the patient, the patient’s family, and healthcare team members.
• Maintains clear communication with attending physicians and licensed nurses about all patient care issues.
• Observes and reports patients' signs or symptoms.
• Contributes information to the licensed nurse for developing and modifying the patient's care plan.
• Assists with delivering and documenting patient care.
• Ensures patient safety.
• Maintains competence with charting.
• Takes vital signs, measures and records input/output.
• Attaches oxygen and cardiac monitors, monitors cardiac rhythm, performs 12 Lead EKGs, and reports findings.
• Receives patients from EMS and prepares them for physician care.
• Collects routine laboratory specimens and performs basic procedures.
• Performs venipunctures and manages IV catheters.

General Responsibilities:

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: Successful completion of a Paramedic training program.
• Experience: Two years of hospital and/or pre-hospital experience in stabilization and transport.
• Licenses/Certifications: Current Oklahoma Paramedic license, BLS, and ACLS (within 3 months).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of hospital policies, medical terminology, and office procedures.
• Effective communication and computer skills.
• Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams and handle multiple tasks.
