Job summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a per diem Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital laboratory team in Boston. The role focuses on pre-analytical processing, specimen handling, and interacting with hospital staff to ensure accurate sample delivery.

The ideal candidate will have a High School Diploma or equivalent and prefer MLA(ASCP) certification. 3–5 years in a hospital laboratory is preferred; internship or 0–1 year is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No
• MLA(ASCP) - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification preferred
• Experience: Hospital Laboratory 3-5 years preferred; Internship or equivalent 0-1 year required
• Staff adheres to all I C.A.R.E. Standards and must demonstrate annual CAP competencies in any area that they work.

Responsibilities

• Verifies that correct specimen and labeling requirements are met for test orders.
• Correctly and accurately registers and labels tubes as appropriate.
• Centrifuges and aliquots specimens according to department policy.
• Sorts, stores, and delivers laboratory specimens by department and specimen requirements.
• Works with medical technologists and client services to resolve specimen problems.
• Answers telephones and provides assistance as needed.
