Job summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a Per Diem Laboratory Assistant at North Shore Medical Center to receive, label, and distribute clinical specimens. The role supports accurate testing workflows and specimen triage in a fast-paced lab environment.

The position requires up to 2 years in a healthcare setting, an associate degree preferred, or a high school diploma with relevant experience. Onsite work at 81 Highland Avenue, with a day shift and hourly pay range listed.

Qualifications

• Associate degree preferred or high school diploma or equivalent required
• 1–2 years experience in a laboratory or healthcare setting preferred
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic computer skills

Responsibilities

• Receive, label, and distribute clinical laboratory specimens including blood, urine, and tissue samples.
• Process specimens by verifying patient information, accessioning samples into the LIMS, and preparing samples for testing.
• Monitor and maintain inventory of laboratory supplies, reagents, and equipment.
• Follow established procedures and protocols for specimen handling, storage, and disposal.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the laboratory area.
• Adhere to safety and quality standards including PPE use, hazardous material disposal, and accreditation requirements.
• Collaborate with laboratory staff and healthcare providers to ensure timely and accurate specimen processing.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by laboratory management.
