Job summary

St. Joseph’s Health in Wayne, NJ is seeking a Food Service Helper to maintain sanitation across kitchen, cafeteria, storage and receiving areas.

You will keep work areas clean and organized, transport meals to patient units and other departments, and ensure FIFO rotation of food products. Must be able to read and understand instructions, perform basic math, and obtain a City of Paterson Food Handler certification within one week of hire.

Qualifications

• Reading and understanding written instructions; no previous experience required; HS diploma preferred; 3 months of on‑the‑job training and orientation.
• Certification required as a Food Handler from the City of Paterson or similar food safety certification; must obtain within 1 week of hire and maintain certification.
• Ability to read instructions, perform basic arithmetic (add/subtract), and make comparisons between numbers and letters.

Responsibilities

• Maintain sanitation of all assigned areas in kitchen, cafeteria, storage and receiving, and related food service areas.
• Transport food to patient units, cafeteria, and other departments within the Medical Center.
• Store and rotate food according to FIFO; wash and sanitize pots, pans, and utensils; clean and sanitize work areas; discard food waste safely.
