Job summary

Heart of America Medical Center is seeking a cook to prepare meals for 100–150 people, including patients, residents, employees, visitors, and special meals. The role ensures kitchen cleanliness and operates with various diets and equipment, with training at two facilities.

The position requires sanitation, confidentiality, and the ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays. On-the-job training is provided, and prior food prep experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares food as indicated on menus, including therapeutic and mechanically altered diets.
• Plans ahead for thawing and preparation based on the menu.
• Prepares food to retain quality and nutrition using standardized recipes.
• Follows production sheets to estimate quantities for meals and special events.
• Ensures food safety and sanitation, dating and labeling foods.
• Assists in delivering food to patients and cafeteria trays as needed.
• Maintains sanitary work area and cleans equipment at shift end.
• Wears proper uniform and PPE as required.
• Follows safety standards and chemical handling procedures.
• Maintains routine cleaning and “clean as you go” practices.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
