Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania invites an HVAC Refrigeration Technician to join Norristown State Hospital. You will troubleshoot, repair, and install heating, cooling, refrigeration, and ventilation systems, ensuring critical hospital operations stay online.

You will perform preventive maintenance, read schematics, work with building controls, and mentor lower-level staff. Full-time role with standard hours and potential after-hours responses; on-site work with free parking and community

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in the maintenance, repair, and installation of HVAC and refrigeration systems, units, and equipment including one year working with commercial or industrial HVAC or refrigeration equipment and controls.
• Experience with building automation controls is desirable.
• EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification is required within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and ventilation equipment by reading schematics and identifying system issues.
• Troubleshoot and reprogram electric, electronic, and pneumatic building controls to support reliable operation.
• Design and install small- to medium-sized HVAC and refrigeration systems, including tubing layout, fitting, and assembly.
• Complete scheduled maintenance tasks, clean cooling equipment, and help extend the life of critical systems.
• Lead or instruct lower-level workers and explain maintenance procedures and technical information.
• Load, haul, unload, and transport HVAC equipment and materials while maintaining clean work areas and operating state vehicles.
