Job summary

UP Health System - Portage is seeking a Maintenance Worker to perform facility maintenance, repairs and system checks to ensure uninterrupted hospital operations. You will report to the Director of Plant Operations and coordinate with multiple departments on priorities and material needs.

Key requirements include a high school diploma, 2+ years of maintenance experience (preferably in a hospital), English communication skills and ability to operate heavy equipment.

Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or the equivalent.
• At least 2 years' experience with maintenance, preferably in a hospital setting.
• Familiarity with Joint Commission and other regulatory policy and procedures preferred.
• Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Must be able to operate heavy and outdoor equipment.

Responsibilities

• Reports daily to the Director of Plant Operations regarding the physical and structural conditions and status of work in progress.
• Maintains standards of quality and productivity for the facility; follows policies and procedures for maintenance and repair of equipment and building systems.
• Assists in administering the maintenance program to ensure uninterrupted operation of the plant.
• Coordinates with departments and administration; negotiates priorities, plans schedules, and requests materials and parts.
• Performs maintenance, repairs, alterations, remodeling and checks installation/servicing of mechanical and electrical equipment and building systems.
• Maintains stock levels of materials and parts within budget constraints.
• Ensures compliance with energy management and safety requirements; coordinates fire and safety measures with Safety and Security.
• Participates in performance improvement and information management activities.
