Job summary

Northwell is seeking an Environmental Services worker to perform cleaning duties across the hospital environment, adhering to department policies and JCAHO/regulatory requirements. The role emphasizes timely cleaning, proper use of supplies, and maintenance of equipment.

The position requires familiarity with Sani-Pak and related cleaning machinery, ability to lift 15 pounds, and mobility to navigate stairs and rooms during shifts. Excellent English communication is necessary.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Minimum of one year experience in an industrial or hospital setting preferred.
• Communicate effectively in English (speaking and reading).
• Demonstrated competency in the use of buffing/scrubbing machines, vacuum cleaners and extractor machines; familiarity with Sani-Pak and cardboard baling machine.
• Must be able to lift/carry fifteen pounds.
• Must be able to ambulate, go up/down stairs and bend repeatedly during shift for cleaning duties.

Responsibilities

• Performs all cleaning functions following established procedures in a timely fashion.
• Uses properly labeled cleaning supplies for each job, as instructed.
• Maintains tools and equipment in good condition, uses supplies economically.
• Cleans beds, blinds, ceilings, light fixtures, sinks, toilets, bathtubs, showers, walls, windows, wall tiles, ceiling & wall vents, televisions, etc.
• Washes and hangs draperies and cubicle curtains.
• Washes and polishes furniture and metal.
• Sweeps walkways and outside perimeter of facility.
• Sweeps, mops, strips, scrubs, vacuums, and buffs floors.
• Replenishes liquid soap, paper towels and toilet tissue.
• Moves furniture between areas or to outside storage as needed.
• Distributes clean linen carts; picks up soiled linen and delivers to linen department.
• Collects garbage, cleans and re-lines trash receptacles.
• Transports garbage to designated areas and disposes non-infectious waste.
• Deposits Red Bags–Infectious Waste in holding cart.
• Transports Red-Bag garbage to Sani-Pak area and uses Sani-Pak receptacle.
• Moves furniture for carpet installations or department relocations as needed.
• Sets up and breaks down tables, chairs, lecture podiums, etc.
• Removes trash before setting up next function/meeting.
• Performs related duties as required.
