Job summary

VPNE is seeking an Environmental Services Assistant to clean, maintain, and service assigned areas within the hospital facilities under direct supervisor guidance.

Responsibilities include intensive floor care, carpet and furniture care, trash removal, surface cleaning, restroom upkeep, and handling linens and waste. The role requires safety awareness and courteous interaction with patients and visitors.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Ability to add/subtract numbers and compare numbers to letters.
• Ability to understand and respond to simple written or verbal instructions.
• Incumbents must respond appropriately to instructions or requests for information.
• Ability to be courteous when contacting patients and visitors.

Responsibilities

• Perform intensive floor care: dusting and damp mopping, stripping and refinishing, and spray buffing.
• Perform carpet and furniture care: vacuuming, spot removal, and shampooing.
• Collect and dispose of trash, soiled linen, and recyclable materials.
• Replace receptacle liners and recycling collection totes.
• Clean and sanitize surfaces: dusting, damp wiping, spot cleaning of vents, fixtures, windows, doors.
• Clean restrooms: fixtures cleaning and supply restocking.
• Maintain items in assigned areas including stairwells, elevators, water fountains, walls, windows, furniture, baseboards, glassware.
• Change curtains, draperies, blinds, shades as assigned.
• Operate cleaning equipment, assist with rearrangement of furniture/equipment.
• Pack regulated medical waste and respond to floods and emergencies.
• Wear protective clothing as required.
• Remove soiled linens and remake beds and stretchers as needed.
