Job summary

Hartford HealthCare is seeking a Housekeeping staff member at St Vincents Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT. This part-time position requires performing housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and sanitary environment for patients and hospital personnel.

You will be responsible for cleaning, waste disposal, and safe transportation of hospital items. Candidates should have strong communication skills and the ability to operate standard cleaning equipment. A High School Diploma or equivalent experience is preferred.

Shift

Part‑time 24‑hour position on 1st shift. Work 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday and every other weekend.

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Housekeeping/Environmental Services manager, perform housekeeping duties and maintain a clean and sanitary environment for patients, visitors, and hospital personnel.

Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize the environment by completing daily, cycle, periodic, and project cleaning using appropriate equipment, chemicals, and supplies, to provide a clean and safe environment.
• Collect, transport, and dispose of municipal, recycled, and regulated medical waste. Segregate and package waste to comply with local, state, and federal regulations regarding waste management.
• Transport, move, and deliver furniture, equipment, and other hospital‑related items as needed, using carts, hand trucks, and dollies, in a safe manner.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

• Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English and communicate effectively.
• Must be able to read and understand oral and written instructions, and communicate information effectively.
• Basic computer skills (including opening/reading email and basic internet use).
• Must have the ability to operate standard cleaning equipment such as carts, burnishes, buffers, auto‑machines, vacuum cleaners, wet vacuums, and other related equipment, as trained.
• Must be able to remain calm in a fast‑paced environment and handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
• Must have the ability to communicate effectively and work well with all levels of patients, the public, and other health‑care workers.
• Exhibits initiative, flexibility, and teamwork.
• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience preferred.
