Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health invites applications for a Chaplain on a part-time, hourly basis. The role supports Pastoral Care with hospital patients, their families, and staff, delivering spiritual care, crisis support, and sacraments as needed.

Visit patients, assess spiritual needs, participate in care planning, and document interactions in the health record. A theological background and CPE are preferred; position requires a Catholic chaplain in good standing where applicable.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Theology/Spirituality background with hospital/parish ministry preferred.
• Roman Catholic Priest or Sister in good standing preferred.
• Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Visit Catholic patients within 24 hours of admission.
• Assess patients' spiritual and religious needs.
• Respond to spiritual needs and make referrals as needed.
• Document in EHR in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with care teams to enhance patient care.
• Act as mediator/advocate for patients and families.
• Respond to crises and directives regarding sacraments.
• Preside over Eucharistic liturgy and administer sacraments as assigned.
• Support units with Chaplain services as requested.
