Job summary

Yale New Haven Health is seeking a Chaplain to provide direct spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, and staff. The role includes on-call coverage, pastoral care, and collaboration with the care team in a large hospital setting.

Responsibilities include conducting spiritual assessments, administering sacraments, and coordinating with education programs; the incumbent will mentor CPE students and help develop department policies while upholding hospital values and standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required; Master of Divinity strongly preferred with ordination or certification alignment.
• Endorsement for institutional ministry by ecclesiastical authority; APC, NACC or NAJC recognition is acceptable.
• ACPE, Inc. accredited Clinical Pastoral Education (4 units, 1600 hours) completed or in progress.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct ministry to patients, families, and staff across services and units, including on-call coverage.
• Conduct spiritual assessments and provide pastoral care and sacraments as needed.
• Collaborate with hospital staff; participate in interdisciplinary care planning and team meetings.
• Document assessments, goals, and interventions in medical records and department logs.
• Coordinate hospital-wide worship services and memorial services upon request.
• Support department education, orientation, clinical conferences, and faith group activities.
• Mentor CPE students and supervise volunteers or trainees.
• Contribute to policies and procedures to improve patient and family care and team relations.
• Maintain professional relationships and pursue ongoing professional development.
