Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia is seeking a skilled carpenter to perform diverse carpentry duties around the hospital, including constructing, installing, and repairing wood, plywood, and wallboard structures.

Responsibilities include reading blueprints, measuring materials, and ensuring work complies with local codes; the role requires a high school diploma and related experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required; additional education and/or training is required.
• Trade or vocational school graduate with courses in blueprint reading, mechanical drawing, mathematics, carpentry, and woodworking preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
• Constructs, installs, finishes and maintains structures such as partitions, ceilings, floors, windows, doors, equipment, furniture, and other parts of the hospital building.
• Joins materials with nails, screws, staples, or adhesives; works on stilts, ladders, and top beams of buildings.
• Prepares layouts of rooms and/or areas for renovations using blue prints, sketches, or verbal instruction.
• Takes measurements and calculates the size and amount of material needed.
• Cuts, shapes and smoothes lumber and other material (e.g. fiberglass) according to measurements.
• Ensures carpentry work, as related to other trades, are completed as per written and/or verbal instruction.
• Assists with or performs other maintenance needs as directed.
