Job summary

Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD is seeking a dedicated Boiler Plant Operator to ensure safe, reliable operation of the central energy plant and boiler systems that power heating, equipment, and sterilization for patient care.

The role requires strong attention to safety, precise maintenance, and the ability to respond quickly to system issues. You’ll perform rounds, monitor readings, and coordinate with facilities staff to keep the hospital running around the clock.

Qualifications

• Requires 6 years boiler plant experience (8 years preferred)
• Maryland Stationary Engineer’s License required; Grade 2 preferred
• Strong knowledge of boiler and chiller plant operations

Responsibilities

• Perform routine rounds of the central energy plant and document readings
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and respond to system malfunctions
• Conduct daily water chemistry testing and adjustments as needed
• Prepare boilers for annual inspections and ensure code compliance
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance with documentation
• Serve as first responder for Facilities Engineering during off-hours
• Coordinate vendor access through the control room
• Support overall plant operations and safety initiatives
