Job summary

Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD, is seeking a Boiler Plant Operator to run and maintain the hospital's central energy plant and boiler systems, ensuring a continuous supply of steam for heating, power, and sterilization.

Under supervision, you will perform rounds, monitor readings, respond to malfunctions, conduct water chemistry tests, prepare for inspections, and document maintenance while complying with safety and code requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus formal training in boiler plant operation or maintenance.
• Minimum 6 years boiler plant experience (8 years preferred).
• Extensive experience in Boiler Plant operations and maintenance.
• Maryland Stationary Engineer’s License required. Grade 2 preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of boiler and chiller plant operations.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine rounds of the central energy plant and document operational readings.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and respond to system malfunctions.
• Conduct daily water chemistry testing and make necessary adjustments.
• Prepare boilers for annual inspections and ensure code compliance.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance with detailed documentation.
• Serve as a first responder for Facilities Engineering during off-hours.
• Coordinate vendor access through the control room.
• Support overall plant operations and safety initiatives.
