Job summary

Cook County Health and Hospitals System seeks a General Anesthesiologist to provide patient care across John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital, Provident Hospital, and related clinics. The role includes clinical anesthesia, resident training, and quality assurance projects.

Responsibilities cover preoperative assessment through postoperative care, with supervising CRNAs and coordinating with surgical teams. Requires Illinois license, ABA credentials, and ACLS certification, with on-call duties included.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical college or university.
  • Licensed to practice medicine in Illinois or able to obtain license before start.
  • Completed Anesthesiology Residency training.
  • Board certified or eligible in Anesthesiology by the ABA.
  • Active Illinois Controlled Substance License or ability to obtain.
  • Active DEA license or ability to obtain.
  • ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

  • Provides anesthetic care throughout the hospital meeting standards.
  • Preoperative assessment, intraoperative anesthesia, and postoperative care.
  • Supervises residents and provides medical direction to CRNAs.
  • Administers anesthesia in OR, OB, PACU, ICU and other settings.
  • Examines patients, reviews history, and manages risk during procedures.
  • Coordinates work with nurses, residents, CRNAs, and surgeons.
  • Administers local, regional, general, and MAC anesthesia.
  • Maintains life support and airway management as needed.
  • Determines recovery status and disposition post-surgery.
  • Works daily hours and takes in-house on-call as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Department Chair.
