Job summary

Marquis Health Consulting Services in Providence, Rhode Island, is seeking volunteers to provide patient care and support services. Volunteers will work under the guidance of the Volunteer Coordinator and participate in various responsibilities such as assisting families, performing homemaker chores, and maintaining open communication within the team. Successful candidates should be mature individuals supportive of the hospice concept and willing to complete training. All are encouraged to apply regardless of background.

Job description

Overview

Volunteer (Unpaid - this is an volunteer position). We are looking for volunteers! Our volunteer provides patient care and support services according to his/her experience and training and in compliance with organization policies.

Responsibilities

• Serves as an integral member of the interdisciplinary group in various settings: home care; respite; inpatient, bereavement and/or administrative; office duties.
• Participates in general orientation.
• Provides care to patients and support to families/caregivers under the guidance of the Volunteer Coordinator and Case Manager, or as part of the administrative team.
• Serves as a substitute family/caregiver in the home, performing activities the volunteer has been prepared for and agreed to perform. The volunteer may perform homemaker chores, run errands, and provide respite care as well.
• Documents as educated and instructed, maintaining confidentiality.
• Meets all health requirements set by Harmony Hospice Care LLC.
• Provides availability on a regular basis and/or in alignment with the patient and family/caregiver needs.
• Participates in volunteer support groups and/or educational inservices.
• Maintains open communication and reports regularly to the Volunteer Coordinator.
• Performs additional duties as directed by the Volunteer Coordinator.
• Participates in quality assessment and performance improvement teams and activities.
• Participates in interdisciplinary group meetings, as appropriate.

Qualifications

• Mature individual, supportive of the hospice concept, comfortable with personal spirituality and willing to serve others in a volunteer capacity.
• Surviving family members: must meet one year waiting period after patient’s death to participate in direct patient care or public relations activities.
• Successful completion of the hospice’s volunteer training and orientation program.
• Previous volunteer experience may be helpful.
• Ability to work within an interdisciplinary group.
• If making home visits, must be a licensed driver with an automobile insured in accordance with state or organization requirements and in good working order.
