Job summary

NEXT CARE HOSPICE is seeking a licensed MD/DO to serve as Hospice Medical Director Designee on a per diem basis, providing coverage as needed in LA & Orange County. The role focuses on governing eligibility and guiding care with the hospice team.

The physician should be licensed in California, Medicare-enrolled, and ready to collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure compliant, quality end-of-life care. Flexible work-from-home options are available.

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted California MD or DO license.
• Medicare-enrolled and in good standing.
• Experience with hospice, palliative care, geriatrics, or end-of-life care preferred.
• Familiarity with Medicare hospice Conditions of Participation and eligibility requirements preferred.
• Reliable and responsive for clinical/documentation needs.
• Comfortable working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary hospice team.

Responsibilities

• Provide coverage for the Hospice Medical Director when unavailable.
• Review and certify hospice eligibility in accordance with Medicare hospice requirements.
• Participate in IDG/IDT meetings as needed.
• Review and sign certifications/recertifications and other required physician documentation.
• Collaborate with the hospice clinical team regarding patient eligibility, plan of care, and symptom management.
• Provide physician orders and clinical guidance as appropriate.
• Assist with face-to-face encounters when applicable and within the scope of the arrangement.
• Maintain timely and compliant documentation.
