Job summary

Madrona Hospice Care, Inc. seeks a Hospice Medical Director Designee to provide overall medical direction and leadership for our hospice program in the Bay Area. You will guide physician services, maintain medical continuity, and champion high-quality end-of-life care.

The role requires a CA-licensed MD/DO with at least two years of hospice leadership experience, and a commitment to collaborative, interdisciplinary practice in a consultant capacity.

Qualifications

• CA-licensed MD/DO required.
• Minimum 2 years hospice/palliative leadership experience.
• Must be based in the Bay Area.
• Maintains controlled substances registration with state and federal authorities.
• Not excluded from participating in the Medicare program.

Responsibilities

• Medical Direction & Program Leadership: provide medical direction and oversight of the hospice program.
• Regulatory Compliance: ensure adherence to Medicare Conditions of Participation, OSHA, and applicable laws.
• Eligibility Certification & Recertification: certify terminal illness eligibility and oversee adult recertifications.
• Plan of Care Oversight: establish and review plans of care with IDG and update regularly.
• Clinical & Medication Management: oversee medications and pain/symptom management with physicians.
• Interdisciplinary Group Participation: attend IDG meetings and act as medical resource.
• 24-Hour Physician Availability: ensure 24/7 physician coverage for medical needs.
• Quality Assessment & Performance Improvement: contribute to QAPI initiatives and policies.
