Job summary

VitalCaring – Bring Comfort, Peace, and Presence When It Matters Most – seeks a Hospice Chaplain / Spiritual Counselor for field-based, hospital and home visits in Lafayette, LA. You will provide individualized spiritual care aligned with patient beliefs, support emotional well-being, and accompany families through grief and end-of-life transitions.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited seminary or school of theology (BD, MDiv, or equivalent theological degree) is required.
• Knowledge of hospice philosophy of care and interfaith sensitivity.
• Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team environment.
• Comfort serving within an interfaith setting and supporting diverse cultures, beliefs, and backgrounds.
• Excellent communication, empathy, and active listening skills.
• Experience with death, dying, grief, and family/caregiver support.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for field-based responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Assess spiritual and emotional needs of patients, caregivers, and families.
• Develop and support individualized spiritual care plans.
• Provide spiritual counseling, emotional support, grief support, and compassionate presence.
• Support patients and families through difficult conversations and end-of-life experiences.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and care planning.
• Coordinate visits from local clergy or faith leaders when appropriate.
