Responsibilities of a Hospice Aide / Certified Nursing Assistant:
- Report directly to the Administrator, Executive Director, or Patient Care Manager and function under the direction, instruction, and supervision of the Registered Nurse and/or Clinical Supervisor.
- Help the patient maintain good personal hygiene.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
- Prepare and serve light meals.
- Assist in feeding the patient when needed.
- Assist the patient in ambulation.
- Assist with the safe use of a walker or wheelchair as taught and supervised by the nurse.
- Assist with light housekeeping tasks such as emptying trash and changing linens.
- Assist with certain treatments as ordered on the aide's plan of care and as allowable in state-specific regulations.
- Promote the patient’s mental alertness through involvement in activities of interest.
- Provide basic emotional and psychological support to the patient and other members of the household.
- Report any change in the patient’s mental or physical condition or home situation to the Registered Nurse and members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrate basic care to the primary caregiver.
- Practice infection control measures and standard precautions.
- Provide accurate documentation with visit itineraries.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Participate in at least one Quality Improvement activity yearly, as assigned by supervisor.
- Complete documentation in a timely manner as outlined in orientation.
About You
Hospice Aide / CNA Requirements:
- Compassionate, kind, and empathetic to your patients and their families.
- Comfortable providing care wherever the patient calls “home”.
- Demonstrate flexibility and composure while supporting others in a time of crisis.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license.
- Six (6) months of patient care experience in hospice, home health, ICU, geriatric, or oncology preferred.
- Additional experience in hospital settings such as Staff RN, Med Surg, PACU, ER, critical care, or nursing home is a plus.
- Current driver’s license and automobile insurance.
- Current CPR certification.
