Responsibilities of a Hospice Aide / CNA
- Report directly to the Administrator, Executive Director, or Patient Care Manager and function under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and/or Clinical Supervisor.
- Help the patient maintain good personal hygiene.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
- Prepare and serve light meals.
- Assist in feeding the patient when needed.
- Assist the patient in ambulation.
- Assist with the safe use of a walker or wheelchair as taught and supervised by the nurse.
- Assist with light housekeeping tasks such as emptying trash and changing linens.
- Assist with treatments as ordered on the aide plan of care and in accordance with state regulations.
- Promote patient’s mental alertness through activities of interest.
- Provide basic emotional and psychological support to the patient and household members.
- Report changes in the patient’s condition or home situation to the RN and team.
- Demonstrate basic care to primary caregivers.
- Practice infection control and standard precautions.
- Provide accurate documentation and participate in staff meetings.
- Participate in quality improvement activities and complete documentation timely.
Candidate Requirements
- Compassionate, kind, and empathetic attitude.
- Ability to provide care in the patient’s home environment.
- Flexibility and composure in crisis support.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license.
- Six months of relevant patient care experience preferred.
- Additional experience in hospital or emergency settings advantageous.
- Valid driver’s license and insurance.
- Current CPR certification.
