Responsibilities of a Hospice Aide / CNA

• Report directly to the Administrator, Executive Director, or Patient Care Manager and function under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and/or Clinical Supervisor.
• Help the patient maintain good personal hygiene.
• Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
• Prepare and serve light meals.
• Assist in feeding the patient when needed.
• Assist the patient in ambulation.
• Assist with the safe use of a walker or wheelchair as taught and supervised by the nurse.
• Assist with light housekeeping tasks such as emptying trash and changing linens.
• Assist with treatments as ordered on the aide plan of care and in accordance with state regulations.
• Promote patient’s mental alertness through activities of interest.
• Provide basic emotional and psychological support to the patient and household members.
• Report changes in the patient’s condition or home situation to the RN and team.
• Demonstrate basic care to primary caregivers.
• Practice infection control and standard precautions.
• Provide accurate documentation and participate in staff meetings.
• Participate in quality improvement activities and complete documentation timely.

Candidate Requirements

• Compassionate, kind, and empathetic attitude.
• Ability to provide care in the patient’s home environment.
• Flexibility and composure in crisis support.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license.
• Six months of relevant patient care experience preferred.
• Additional experience in hospital or emergency settings advantageous.
• Valid driver’s license and insurance.
• Current CPR certification.
