Job summary

Optimal Care is seeking a compassionate Hospice Aide/Homemaker to support patients at home and in care facilities within the Greater Kalamazoo area. You will provide essential personal care and mobility assistance, helping patients maintain dignity and quality of life, while collaborating with nurses and the interdisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • Must complete a minimum of 75 hours of classroom and supervised training.
  • Sixteen hours of classroom must be completed prior to 16 hours of practical training.
  • Must hold current Nurse Aide certification and be in good standing on the state nurse aide registry.
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and valid automobile insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care (bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, oral hygiene) and mobility in patients' homes or facilities.
  • Develop trusting relationships with patients and families while coordinating with nurses and the care team.
  • Travel daily within the service area to care for patients in homes, assisted living facilities, or nursing homes.

As a Hospice Aide/Homemaker, you'll provide hands‑on support that helps patients maintain their quality of life while remaining in the place they call home. Through assistance with personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, oral hygiene, meal preparation, and mobility, you'll help ensure each patient receives the care, comfort, and respect they deserve.

You'll develop trusting relationships with patients and families while working closely with nurses and other members of the interdisciplinary care team to support each patient's unique needs. Location

  • Office Location: 4341 S. Westnedge Ave, Suite 2210, Kalamazoo MI 49008
  • Main Service Area: Greater Kalamazoo area

This role is a high travel position and requires daily travel within the service area to provide care to patients in their homes, assisted living facilities, or nursing homes

Hours

  • Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Weekend On-Call Rotation

Required Qualification

  • Completed a minimum of 75 hours of classroom and supervised practical training
  • Sixteen hours of classroom must be completed prior to a mandatory 16 hours of practical training
  • Must hold current certification as a nurse aide and be in good standing on the state nurse aide registry
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and valid automobile insurance coverage

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a Hospice Aide, Home Health Aide, or Certified Nursing Assistant

Essential Skills and Competencies

  • Must be able to read and write in English and follow written and verbal instructions in English effectively
  • Understands hospice philosophy, comfortable providing specialized care to the terminally ill in the home or facility
  • Is self‑directing with the ability to work with little direct supervision
  • Secure with issues of death/dying
  • Provides a calm manner when in a patient's home
  • Has empathy for the needs of the ill, injured, frail and the impaired

Pay Range
$20—$24 USD
