Role Overview

Parity Homes is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Horticulturist to support the care and stewardship of plants and green spaces within the Harlem Park community. This hands‑on, outdoor role focuses on plant health, soil care, pruning, and ecological maintenance across vacant lots, parks, and community spaces.

In this position, you will assess plant health, water and mulch plants, prune trees and shrubs, manage weeds, improve soil conditions, select appropriate plantings, and contribute to seasonal planting plans. Your horticultural expertise will be key in ensuring the long‑term vitality of green spaces and supporting the environmental health of the community.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain plant health through regular watering, mulching, pruning, and pest management
• Improve soil health and manage environmental issues affecting plants
• Select and implement appropriate plantings for seasonal plans
• Manage weeds and maintain cleanliness of green spaces
• Work closely with residents, volunteers, and the Foreman to enhance green spaces
• Provide expert advice on plant care and sustainability best practices
• Support long‑term ecological maintenance and seasonal planting strategies

Requirements

• Demonstrated knowledge of plant care, including watering, pruning, mulching, and soil health
• Ability to identify common plant stressors, pests, and environmental issues
• Experience with planting plans, native or adaptive species, and basic landscape design preferred
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Comfort working both independently and collaboratively with staff, residents, and volunteers
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends
• Experience in landscaping, gardening, horticulture, or environmental stewardship
