Job summary

Gothic Landscape in La Jolla, CA is seeking an on-site Golf Course Maintenance Horticulture Gardener to maintain landscapes at a premier client site. Ideal candidates have Southern California turf maintenance experience and enjoy all aspects of turf, horticulture and outdoor gardening.

Responsibilities include pruning, weed control, turf maintenance, light irrigation repairs, and educating guests about plants.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or higher in Horticulture related field preferred.
• Bilingual (Spanish) a plus.
• CA Driver’s license required.
• Experience with CA landscapes and resort turf maintenance preferred.
• Ability to lift 40–50 pounds and work outdoors in sun.

Responsibilities

• Perform pruning, weed removal, turf maintenance, light irrigation repairs, and pest/disease management.
• Day-to-day gardening alongside crew members.
• Educate guests and clients about plants in the garden/property.

This position will report directly to a Resort in La Jolla, CA with a schedule from Mon-Fri 7am-3:30pm

This On-site Golf Course Maintenance Horticulture Gardner will be responsible for hands-on garden maintenance of landscapes on a premier client site located in La Jolla. Ideal candidate will have experience in Southern California golf course turf maintenance and sustainable gardening practices. Must be a garden enthusiast who enjoys all aspects of turf grass maintenance, horticulture and outdoor gardening.

*Responsibilities of this position will include, but not limited to:

• Perform pruning, weed removal, turf grass maintenance, light repair of irrigation systems and pest and diseases application
• Day to day gardening alongside crew members
• Must be able to communicate and interact effectively with guests and clients to educate them about the specific plants in the garden/property.

*Skills & experience that are necessary as a Horticulture Specialists will include, but not limited to:

• Experience and knowledge with care and needs of CA landscapes, work experience with various gardening methods, tools and turf maintenance in a resort environment.
• Ability to talk about plants to general public, use hand tools, such as pruning shears, load and operate a blower for long periods of time, use a hand rake for long periods of time, operate of a motor vehicle, must have CA Driver’s license
• Associates degree or higher in Horticulture related field is preferred
• Bilingual (Spanish) a plus, able to work eight hours or more per day, with breaks necessary, for 5 days a week (it may require working overtime & on the weekends), able to work under direct sunlight for long periods of time, able to carry 40 pounds (bags of fertilizer, mulch, etc.), able to load / unload a trailer full of burlaps up to 50 pounds, able to bend, stoop and twist throughout the day

• Must be able to see, hear and speak clearly in order to communicate with supervisors, crew members, and, occasionally, customers. This position can be a physically demanding role requiring the incumbent to be able to:
• Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body
• Work in various positions including, but not limited to stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, and squatting for extended periods of time.
• Lift, pull, and push materials and equipment to complete job tasks
• Lift approximately 50 pounds of weight frequently though-out the workday

Hourly Rate:

• $28.00 - $32.00 per hour (specific compensation may vary based on overall skills, experience and location)
