Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking a Superintendent of Horticulture to plan, monitor, and supervise a program for inmates at the designated location and other sites as required. You will work with inmates on landscape installation, maintenance, vegetable gardening, and seasonal color, while supervising staff and maintaining facilities and safety.

Responsibilities include equipment upkeep, chemical inventory control, greenhouse operations, and support for special events.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; related custodial/grounds experience accepted.
• Horticulture degree focusing on growing and managing plants required.
• Must obtain SC Applicator's Pesticide License within first year.

Responsibilities

• Plan, monitor, and supervise a horticulture program for inmates at the assigned location and other sites as applicable.
• Supervise inmates and staff for grounds maintenance, landscape installation, and seasonal color.
• Maintain equipment and manage inventory of chemicals and tools.
• Ensure security of the work area and adherence to safety protocols.
• Establish and maintain a greenhouse to support program activities.
• Assist with special event support as needed.
