Management & Training Corporation (MTC) seeks a Horticulture Instructor at North Central Correctional Complex in Marion, Ohio. The role focuses on delivering hands-on instruction to inmates, fostering practical skills in horticulture that support rehabilitation and career readiness.

You will develop objectives, select materials, manage classroom and lab activities, and monitor progress while upholding facility procedures and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in the vocation certified to teach.
• GED or high school diploma plus 3 years’ experience in the vocation being taught and Ohio teaching certification required.

Responsibilities

• Deliver individualized competency-based instruction through classroom and laboratory management.
• Develop performance objectives and tests.
• Select and adapt instructional materials to achieve mastery of competencies.
• Plan activities to support budget requests and ensure equipment and supplies.
• Monitor motivation and learning progress of inmates.
• Evaluate progress toward objectives and maintain records.
• Adhere to facility procedures and safety rules.
• Promote positive social skills through modeling appropriate behavior.

Essential Duties

• Deliver individualized competency-based instruction through classroom and laboratory management in the occupational program areas taught to inmates.
• Develop performance objectives and criterion-referenced tests in accordance with established program content.
• Review, select and adapt instructional materials to help individuals reach mastery of the competencies required for entry, advancement and upgrading occupations.
• Plan activities to efficiently initiate budget requests to assure that all equipment, supplies and materials are available to support a progressive training schedule.
• Monitor motivation, discipline and learning difficulties to bring about positive changes in the behavior of inmates.
• Evaluate and maintain records of the youthful offender's progress toward completion of pre-stated performance objectives.
• Execute all applicable forms to adhere to facility procedures.
• Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in the vocation certified to teach.

OR

• Graduation from accredited high school or equivalent (GED) AND three (3) years’ experience in the vocation being taught and valid secondary teaching certification issued by the Ohio Department of Education required.
• A valid driver’s license in the state of Ohio with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
• Must successfully complete all annual in-service requirements and pass an annual background check.
