Job summary

Louisiana State University AgCenter Northwest Region is seeking an Assistant/Associate/Extension Agent (Horticulture) based in Sabine Parish. You will develop horticulture programming for youth and adults, conduct on-farm visits, workshops, field days, and demonstrations to meet client needs.

Applicants should have a bachelor's degree with strong communication skills; a master's is preferred. The role involves travel, committee work, and collaboration with parish, regional, and state colleagues.

Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree in education, vocational education, agricultural sciences, family and consumer sciences/human ecology, biological or social sciences, recreation and leisure studies or closely related areas.
• Master's degree in a field listed above is desired.
• Effective oral and written communication skills are required.
• Experience in recruiting, training and supervising volunteers and leadership development for youth and adults is desired.
• Knowledge of public relations and the ability to cope with change are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop advisory committees for horticulture and related focus areas to identify clientele needs and develop extension programming.
• Deliver research-based information through on-farm visits, workshops, field days, and other educational meetings.
• Disseminate LSU AgCenter recommendations and assist in pesticide re-certifications and trainings.
