Responsibilities

• Provide safe, fun, community-based programming for kids on weekends and build authentic community among kids, families, and volunteers.
• Create opportunities for families to grow closer to Jesus through events that foster community and connections.
• Meet regularly with the Family Minister for debrief and planning
• Attend weekly Hope West Des Moines staff meetings
• Maintain presence at church-wide and children's ministry events as assigned
• Support the mission, vision, values, and multi-site ministry of Lutheran Church of Hope

Job description

The HopeKids Community & Connections Coordinator is responsible for bringing the connections-based ministry vision for Children’s Ministry to life through programming and events at Lutheran Church of Hope. This person will be a warm, energetic, people-loving leader who is passionate about building community and helping others feel seen, valued, and connected. This person will develop a culture within Children’s Ministry where everyone—kids, families, and volunteers—know they have a place. The HopeKids Community & Connections Coordinator will lead with kindness and compassion, stellar communication, grit, and a lot of joy to help build meaningful community that feels like a family.

Primary Functions

• Provide safe, fun, and community-based programming for kids on weekends that achieves the following goals:
  Teaches kids about who Jesus is and his great love for them through intentional small group and large group opportunities
  Allows kids to build authentic and life-giving community that offers structure and a positive culture
  Encourages volunteers to develop meaningful connections with kids, families, and fellow volunteers
  Notices people on the sidelines and invites them to join in
• Create opportunities for families to grow closer to Jesus, to one another, and to other families through weekday and weekend events that foster community and connections.

Secondary Functions

With the support of the Family Minister and Church Life team, the HopeKids Community & Connections Coordinator will also:

• Meet regularly with the Family Minister for debrief, feedback, leadership development and planning
• Attend weekly Hope West Des Moines staff meetings
• Have a consistent presence at Lutheran Church of Hope West Des Moines church-wide and children’s ministry events (i.e. Christmas, Easter, Vacation Bible School, Taste of Hope, Daddy Daughter Dance, etc.) when necessary or as assigned
• Support the mission, vision, values, and authority structure of Lutheran Church of Hope and the vision for multi-site ministry

Personal Responsibilities

• Adhere to Lutheran Church of Hope Staff Covenant for spiritual, personal and professional relationships and behavior
• Maintain a vital and growing personal walk with the Lord through committed Bible study, prayer and personal learning
• Attend worship weekly in person at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines

Skills, Education and Experience Required

• Possess Christ-centered, joy-filled passion for ministry which flows from a vibrant personal relationship with Jesus Christ
• Passion for children’s ministry and empowering families to disciple their children in partnership with the church
• Experience planning and executing events
• Experience working closely with a team of peers
• Ability to supervise, inspire, and equip volunteers
• Ability to prioritize and boundary ministry with personal and family life
• Ability to lead, coordinate and manage multiple tasks, including behind thenscenes and on-stage
• Ability to grasp and adjust to new and changing situations
• Work well with others, maintaining positive and effective relationships and communication with other staff and those attending Lutheran Church of Hope
• Commitment to always reflect in the best possible light Lutheran Church of Hope, its staff, and the mission, vision, and values of its Constitution, and the church as a whole

Hours: full-time; Sundays required
