BASIS DC is seeking a Long-Term Substitute Teacher to teach Honors / AP Chemistry and a Forensic Science Capstone course for seniors. Immediate start – December 4, 2026.

Substitute Teachers support students in grades 5 through 12 by facilitating lesson plans, maintaining routines, and creating a positive learning environment. Coverage may span various subjects as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in subject matter or 24+ credit hours with other degree.
• Master’s degree in subject matter or education preferred.
• Experience in teaching/education is a plus.

• Provide higher-level subject instruction in an interactive environment.
• Manage student behavior to foster achievement and respect.
• Support non-instructional functions such as Early Bird, Late Bird, and lunch/study hall.

Substitute Teachers support students in grades 5 through 12 by facilitating teacher-provided lesson plans, maintaining established classroom routines and expectations, and creating a positive and productive learning environment. Depending on the needs of the day, substitutes may provide coverage across a variety of subjects and grade levels.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in subject matter (or 24+ credit hours in applicable subject matter with other degree)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in subject matter or education
• 2+ years teaching/education experience

Essential Functions

• Facilitate provided lesson plans
• Provide subject instruction on a higher level than grade-standard in an interactive learning environment to achieve exceptional results for all students
• Manage student behavior to foster academic achievement, personal responsibility, intellect, individuality, and respect in all students
• Support the execution of non-instructional functions, such as "Early Bird," "Late Bird," and lunch and study hall
• Arrive on time and remain available for the full duration of accepted substitute assignments
• Supervise individual students and/or groups of students
