BASIS ED in Washington, DC seeks a Long-Term Substitute Teacher to cover Honors/AP Chemistry and a senior Capstone course in Forensic Science. Immediate start – December 4, 2026. Substitutes support grades 5–12 with prepared lesson plans and diverse coverage as needed.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in the subject area (or equivalent), and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Master’s degree and teaching experience are preferred to enhance classroom outcomes and student engagement.

• 2+ years teaching/education experience.

• Manage student behavior to foster academic achievement, personal responsibility, intellect, individuality, and respect in all students.
• Support the execution of non-instructional functions, such as “Early Bird,” “Late Bird,” and lunch and study hall.
• Arrive on time and remain available for the full duration of accepted substitute assignments.
• Supervise individual students and/or groups of students.

Substitute Teachers support students in grades 5 through 12 by facilitating teacher-provided lesson plans, maintaining established classroom routines and expectations, and creating a positive and productive learning environment. Depending on the needs of the day, substitutes may provide coverage across a variety of subjects and grade levels.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in subject matter (or 24+ credit hours in applicable subject matter with other degree)

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in subject matter or education

2+ years teaching/education experience
