Job summary

Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Homeless Shelter seeks a dedicated Intake and Program Assistant to handle daily client intakes, assessments, and operations, helping individuals access housing, childcare, and employment opportunities within the community.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, MN driver’s license, HMIS certification within three months, and Food Safe Serve & CPR/First Aid. 20–29 hours weekly, including some weekends/evenings, and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Associate's degree or equivalent leadership experience preferred.
• Food Safe Serve Certificate and CPR/First Aid within three months of employment.
• HMIS certification within three months of employment.
• One year of experience in human services preferred.
• Native American preference where allowed by policy.
• Strong communication and ability to work with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

• Assist with ordering, purchasing and preparing food and supplies for the Shelter.
• Assist Shelter Manager with new client applications and intake process.
• Ensure flow of critical information during shifts and changeovers.
• Plan and implement program activities for Shelter guests.
• Support guests and monitor behavior and well-being; assist with life skills.
• De-escalate and monitor shelter environment for safety.
• Collect and submit HMIS data for LLBO.
• Contribute to care and cleanliness of the Shelter; complete shift assignments.
• Attend trainings and meetings; prepare reports for the Shelter Manager.
• Represent the Shelter professionally on site and in the community; provide education and tours to visitors.
• Maintain confidentiality and respect Native American culture.
