About the Position

This Non-State, Time-Limited (14) job opportunity is in the MS Office of Homeland Security, PEARL, MS, located in RANKIN COUNTY, and will serve as the Homeland Security Meth/Heroin Intelligence Analyst. The Meth/Heroin Intelligence Analyst is responsible for collecting, evaluating, analyzing, and disseminating intelligence related to methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl, opioids, and other illicit drug trafficking activities that impact the State of Mississippi. The position supports the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (MDPS) Homeland Security Department and assists federal, state, and local law enforcement partners by transforming complex information and data into actionable intelligence. The Intelligence Analyst researches drug trafficking organizations, distribution networks, criminal associations, transportation routes, emerging drug trends, overdose patterns, and other threats associated with illicit narcotics. The position identifies relationships, trends, patterns, and intelligence gaps that may assist investigators and law enforcement leadership in preventing, disrupting, and dismantling drug trafficking operations. This position requires a high level of analytical ability, attention to detail, discretion, critical thinking, and the ability to communicate complex intelligence findings clearly to law enforcement personnel, command staff, and partner agencies.—

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Collects, reviews, evaluates, and analyzes intelligence from law enforcement databases, investigative reports, criminal intelligence systems, public records, statistical information, and other authorized sources.
• Analyzes intelligence concerning methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl, opioids, and other controlled substances and their impact on Mississippi communities.
• Identifies trends, patterns, relationships, associations, and emerging threats involving drug trafficking organizations and criminal networks.
• Develops intelligence products, reports, bulletins, threat assessments, analytical summaries, maps, charts, timelines, and presentations for law enforcement and Homeland Security personnel.
• Conducts link analysis to identify relationships among individuals, organizations, vehicles, locations, communications, financial activity, and other investigative information.
• Assists investigators and law enforcement partners in identifying potential connections between separate cases, suspects, organizations, and drug trafficking activities.
• Analyzes geographic and transportation patterns associated with narcotics distribution, trafficking corridors, and supply networks.
• Monitors emerging drug trends, trafficking methods, concealment techniques, distribution practices, and other developments affecting Mississippi's public safety.
• Conducts research and analysis to identify emerging threats involving methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl, synthetic opioids, and other dangerous substances.
• Develops intelligence assessments concerning drug trafficking organizations and their operational capabilities, geographic reach, criminal associates, and known or suspected activities.
• Provides analytical support for investigations, enforcement operations, interdiction initiatives, task forces, and other multi‑agency public safety efforts.
• Assists with identifying intelligence gaps and recommends additional information or collection requirements that may support ongoing investigations.
• Integrates information from multiple sources and evaluates the reliability, relevance, accuracy, and credibility of intelligence.
• Maintains and updates intelligence databases, case files, analytical records, and other information systems in accordance with agency policies and applicable laws.
• Conducts statistical analysis and prepares reports identifying changes in drug activity, trafficking patterns, seizures, arrests, and other relevant indicators.
• Creates maps, charts, graphs, geographic analyses, and other visual intelligence products to communicate complex information effectively.
• Coordinates and exchanges appropriate intelligence with federal, state, local, tribal, and other authorized law enforcement partners.
• Supports intelligence briefings for Homeland Security leadership, investigators, command staff, task forces, and other authorized personnel.
• Prepares timely intelligence alerts and notifications regarding emerging threats, significant drug trafficking activity, and trends requiring law enforcement awareness.
• Assists with the preparation of intelligence for operational planning, investigations, interdiction efforts, and strategic decision‑making.
• Conducts open‑source research and other authorized intelligence collection activities consistent with applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
• Reviews historical intelligence and investigative information to identify previously unrecognized connections or trends.
• Assists in evaluating the effectiveness of narcotics enforcement and intelligence initiatives through data-driven analysis.
• Participates in intelligence meetings, task force meetings, operational briefings, training, conferences, and interagency coordination activities.
• Maintains strict confidentiality and safeguards sensitive law enforcement, criminal intelligence, investigative, and Homeland Security information.
• Ensures all intelligence products are objective, factual, appropriately sourced, and prepared in accordance with applicable intelligence standards and agency policies.
• May provide analytical support during major investigations, enforcement operations, emergencies, and other critical incidents.

Preferred Qualifications

Typicaly requires a Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years of experience. — Hiring Agency Prefers: Intelligence-gathering and analysis experience is preferred.
