Job summary

South Hills Interfaith Movement (SHIM) seeks a Family Development Specialist to provide direct services to families with children aged 0–5. The role focuses on home visits, goal planning, advocacy, and referrals to connect families with essential services.

The FDS will maintain accurate records, build trusting relationships, and participate in supervision, trainings, and events, supporting a multi-cultural community in Pittsburgh’s southern suburbs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of related full-time experience.
• Four years’ experience in Family Development or related field.
• Ability to work evenings and occasional weekend hours.
• Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of social service systems in Allegheny County.

Responsibilities

• Develop trusting relationships with families to provide advocacy, support, and coordinated services linked with the South Hills Family Center.
• Conduct home visits twice a month to improve parenting skills and child development understanding.
• Facilitate curriculum-based parenting classes and parent-child interaction groups.
• Provide advocacy and referrals for services such as early intervention, housing, health, and public benefits.
• Maintain records and files for each family.
