Job Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following responsibilities are required of the position, plus any other duties that may be required by the employer. Specific duties and responsibilities will be assigned by the building principal or designee.

  • Promote life-long learning through a positive school experience
  • Assist students in addressing and overcoming life obstacles at home or school
  • Coordinate with teachers, administrators, parents/guardians, and student to create networks of support and consultation as appropriate
  • Deliver preventative programming including classroom activities, character education, conflict resolution, bullying prevention, challenge education, parent support services, and district-wide programing
  • Provide intervention services and programming including individual and group support, consultation with teachers, staff, parents/guardians, crisis response, conflict resolution, restorative practices, and problem solving
  • Ensure that students’ educational, social, emotional, and material needs are met according to established laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Provide referrals to school social worker, guidance counselor, administrator, school staff, and community agencies as appropriate
  • Serve as a liaison between school, home, and community resources
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by building principal or designee

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor of Social Work or BA degree in Psychology, Sociology or related field required
  • Master of Social Work or MA in Counseling or Psychology preferred
  • Experience in a school or social service agency preferred
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive relationships with students, families, and staff
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in team building and collaboration with other professionals
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Ability to work independently or with others
  • Ability to communicate well with others
  • Ability to assess situations and act quickly
  • Ability to multitask
  • Computer experience with Word, Excel and Google apps preferred
  • Interest in working with children/adolescents and their emotional-social needs

Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of standing, walking, sitting, climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (25 pounds or more) as well as use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
