Purpose

As a key member of the Children’s Residential Services management team, the Home Manager is responsible for monitoring all aspects of the group home assigned, including but not limited to staffing, programming, unusual incidents, home budget, supplies, and maintaining a home environment conducive to resident growth and development.

The Home Manager provides direct supervision to staff members to ensure that safety is observed, program implementation occurs as scheduled, and that issues related to the maintenance of the physical plant are communicated and followed up to maintain a healthy and safe living environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Staff Related Tasks

• Provides administrative oversight to all staff issues including hiring, supervising, mentoring, disciplining and discharging staff.
• Completes all annual performance appraisals in a timely manner.
• Assists with scheduling and filling shifts and monitoring payroll.
• Offers crisis and staff support as needed.
• Ensures staff remains in compliance with training and driving requirements.
• Provides regular supervision, on‑job training/coaching, and feedback during and off shift as needed.
• Holds home team meetings at a minimum once per month to discuss issues pertaining to the home and youth.
• Accountable for completing all shift documentation including shift summaries, home logs, transportation logs, ABC sheets, MARs, temperature logs, food service logs, and sign‑in/sign‑out sheets.
• Completes ADP, LOA, and coordinates other staff related needs/issues with HR.
• Responsible for being available to the home for front‑line support and back‑up according to the on‑call schedule.
• Participates in an on‑call and on‑campus rotation for management of campus (manager in charge and manager on call).
• Maintains optimal relationship with DSPs working in his/her home and develops a team approach.
• Conducts staff training as needed and ensures staff training needs are met to work with the youth.
• Assists in completing on‑the‑job training packets for new staff members.

Programming

• Provides administrative oversight to all home activities, including reviewing the daily home log, youth binders, and all appointments for residents.
• Prepares and maintains a routine milieu programming schedule and ensures that staff implement the schedule through direct observation and random checks.
• Ensures all off‑unplanned off‑campus activities are approved by the Home Manager.
• Coordinates with the clinical therapist and case manager to implement individual schedules in line with the milieu schedule.
• Ensures ratios support schedules for optimal engagement for youth and DSPs.
• Maintains accountability for staff and child whereabouts on and off grounds.
• Collaborates closely with the clinical therapist and case manager to familiarize himself/herself with treatment goals for each youth and ensures goals are met.
• Participates in meetings relevant to youth progress in treatment as needed.
• Coordinates with other departments to ensure the home meets regulatory requirements.
• Maintains professional relationships with youth and their family members and maintains contact with parents/guardians when issues arise.

Home Environment

• Ensures the home maintains optimum health and safety for residents and staff.
• Monitors environmental needs such as conditions of furniture, play materials, cleaning supplies, bedding, appliances and reports needs to appropriate personnel.
• Completes and monitors all corrective action plans from routine environmental checks.
• Monitors safety of outside play materials and play areas.
• Maintains accountability for environmental tasks, including cleanliness of hygiene bins, completion of laundry, and tracking youth clothing with each article marked by name.
• Ensures any and all issues with the home assigned vehicles are reported to the appropriate department.

Financial Responsibilities

• Makes financial responsibility for the home by returning the debit card with receipts after each purchase and requesting funds in a timely manner.
• Ensures youth SSI funds are spent responsibly with assistance from the case manager and clinical therapist.
• Manages monthly budget by tracking revenue and expenses and participates in monthly financial review of his/her home.

Attends department meetings and other meetings as required by supervisors.

Maintains a current American Heart Association certification in First Aid and CPR.

Successfully completes Little City required training, re‑training, and any additional training as required by policies or assigned by supervisor. Actively participates in professional development opportunities as appropriate.

Completes all other professional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• At least 60 semester hours of college credits.
• At least 2 years full‑time experience in a residential childcare program.
• At least 25 years of age with a minimum of one year of supervisory experience.
• A Bachelor’s degree and two years of supervisory experience preferred.
• Direct Support Professional (DSP) Certification or eligible to obtain within 6 months of employment.
• Capable of transporting youth and possess a current IL valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is expected to sit, walk, and stand for prolonged periods; frequently pushes, pulls, grasps, feels, and occasionally stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls. The employee frequently is required to use manual and finger dexterity and eye‑hand coordination when working with persons served and handling office, medical, or household equipment. The employee is required to assist and lift up to 50 pounds with varying amounts of assistance on a recurring basis. Must have corrected vision and hearing within normal range and ability to operate a motor vehicle. Must have the ability to perform CPR and CPI. Occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious substances, including communicable diseases when performing personal care (Category III). Occasional exposure to cleaning agents and disinfectants. Residential work environment with a noise level of normal to loud.
