Job summary

Qualifications

  • 2+ years in field services/QA/QC or energy efficiency/utility experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of building science and technical expertise required.
  • BPI Quality Control Inspector preferred or ability to acquire within 60 days.

Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site residential energy audits including HVAC, insulation, and building envelope.
  • Use diagnostic tools to assess air leakage and energy performance.
  • Collect and analyze utility data and building specifications.
  • Input data into software and prioritize energy-saving recommendations.
  • Educate homeowners on energy-saving opportunities and rebates.
  • Conduct post-installation inspections to verify upgrades.
  • Ensure compliance with program requirements and QA/QC standards.
  • Collaborate with contractors, organizations, and program managers.
  • Maintain records and submit documentation promptly.

Overview

Resource Innovations is seeking a Home Energy Assessor to join our growing team in Michigan. In this role you will be responsible for delivering high‑quality in‑home energy audits and ensuring quality control for a residential natural gas energy efficiency program. You are a customer‑focused technician educated in BPI standards and related certifications who will be conducting comprehensive in‑home energy audits and collaborating with community‑based organizations and contractor networks. Your oversight will extend to residential weatherization, HVAC, and water heating installation inspections, as you review QA/QC findings to ensure program integrity. Working with partners to identify and implement effective solutions based on audit findings and client feedback will be key to your success. Additionally, you will collaborate cross‑functionally with various teams to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of Resource Innovations's program solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform on‑site residential energy audits, including HVAC systems, insulation, lighting, appliances, and building envelope in accordance with program requirements.
  • Use diagnostic tools such as blower doors, duct blasters, watt meters, thermal guns, etc. to assess air leakage and energy performance.
  • Collect and analyze utility data, homeowner usage patterns, and building specifications.
  • Utilize provided software tools to input all above data and prioritize recommendations for energy‑saving improvements.
  • Educate homeowners and residents about energy‑saving opportunities, rebates, and best practices.
  • Perform post‑installation inspections to verify completion and effectiveness of energy upgrades.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards and program requirements.
  • Collaborate with contractors, community‑based organizations, utility representatives, and program managers as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records and submit documentation in a timely manner. Deliver best‑in‑class customer satisfaction.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must be located in or near central Michigan or the Upper Peninsula.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate or Bachelor's degree in energy, construction, environmental science, or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years’ experience in a field services/quality control and quality assurance role, or consulting, energy efficiency or utility experience highly desired.
  • Certification as a BPI Quality Control Inspector preferred, or ability to acquire within first 60 days of employment.
  • Knowledge of building science, construction and technical expertise is required.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Ability to travel 25% to 75% of the time (limited overnight travel).
  • Interest in sustainability and passionate about making a meaningful impact on the environment.

Benefits and Compensation

Resource Innovations offers competitive salaries based on a candidate’s skills, experience and qualifications for the position. The compensation range for the base salary for this position is $61,000 - $85,000. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus. In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus. The stated salary represents the expected compensation for this position. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as the candidate’s experience, education and location.
