Job Summary

The Home‑Based Educator provides weekly home visits of at least 1½ hours per family for a caseload of up to twelve families with children from prenatal to five years old. The educator conducts Family Play Day and socialization experiences, assists families in developing school‑readiness strategies, and fosters parent‑child relationships, emphasizing that parents are the child’s primary teachers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver a minimum of 1½ hours of home visits each week to each assigned child.
  • Conduct developmentally appropriate Family Play Day experiences in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Assist families in setting goals based on ongoing assessments and integrating these goals with Individual Family Service Plans (IFSPs), Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and Treatment Plans.
  • Provide developmental, sensory, hearing, vision, behavioral, and nutritional screening; ensure all children receive needed medical and dental evaluations and maintain related documentation.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and submit required reports promptly.
  • Help families access community resources, including THRIVE coaches and other service‑area staff.
  • Prepare Family Play Day sites and incorporate learning opportunities into the home environment.
  • Carry out emergency procedures, workplace safety standards, and safety responsibilities for others.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development activities; maintain a Professional Development Plan.
  • Recruit volunteers and support program recruitment activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality of agency, program, and client information.
  • Represent Lakes and Pines CAC in a positive, ethical manner at all times.
Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; additional training is preferred. Must obtain a Preschool Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential within two years of hire (waiver may be considered with significant related experience).
  • Experience: Less than one year of relevant experience.
  • Authorization and Physical: Valid driver’s license; able to lift 50 pounds; able to perform required physical tasks and operate position‑specific equipment.
  • Skills & Abilities: Excellent written and oral communication; time‑management to achieve quality work; ability to work independently and as a team member; adaptability to changing deadlines; culturally competent with diverse families; mentor junior staff; maintain organizational priorities.
  • Knowledge: Agency policies, Head Start standards, Child Abuse Laws, Mandated Reporting, State licensing, USDA guidelines, Core Early Learning Outcomes Framework, and use of the Growing Great Kids curriculum.
