Job Description

Fluvanna County Public Schools seeks to hire Home based and Homebound Instructors to fill immediate needs within the division. Summary

We are looking for Home based and Homebound Instructors for Fluvanna County Public School students who require specific types of instruction.

Program Definitions
  • Home based: A program of home based instruction for students assigned to instruction at home due to IEP placement or disciplinary action.
  • Homebound: A program of homebound instruction for students confined for periods that would prevent normal school attendance based upon certification of need by a licensed physician, physician assistant, or licensed clinical psychologist.
Service Location

The location of services may occur in the student’s home or a healthcare facility. If services are in the home, the parent or guardian must identify an adult who will be present at all times and agree to confine all pets prior to the arrival of the homebound teacher. If the home setting is not deemed appropriate for instruction and the student’s condition allows, instruction may take place at the school, the public library, or another agreed upon location.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain close contact with the student’s teachers, counselor, or program coordinator to receive and implement appropriate educational programs.
  • Deliver assignments and instruct the student as necessary.
  • Be present for all testing except those tests that are designated as take‑home.
  • Regularly report academic progress to parents, teachers, and school counselors.
  • Maintain an accurate record of hours of instruction provided for each assigned student and file such information with the Office of Testing, Accountability, and Alternative Education.
  • Report missed sessions to Student Services Assistant and include this information on the Homebound/Home‑based timesheet.
  • Submit timesheets to the Student Services Assistant at Abrams Academy by the designated deadline.
  • Provide input for measuring the student’s academic achievement such as daily grading, report card grades, and awarding of credit.
  • Submit the student’s completed work to the designated school representative in a timely manner.
  • Serve as a liaison between school and home.
  • Assist in the student’s transition back to school.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree and valid Virginia Teaching license with required endorsements.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively before groups of parents, teachers, and school board.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; apply basic algebra and geometry concepts.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization; interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Virginia Driver’s license; valid Virginia Teaching license.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to talk or hear; stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; lift overhead, above shoulders, and horizontally; lift and move up to 50 pounds; push items of 50 pounds; perform other physical tasks as described.

Work Environment

Must be able to work both inside and outside, in various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality; interruptions are routine; flexibility and patience required; self‑motivated and able to complete job assignments under stressful conditions; after‑hours work may be required; may be exposed to physical outbursts by students.

Terms of Employment
  • Part‑time, hourly position. Non‑benefited.
  • Salary: $35.00 per hour and Mileage Reimbursement.
  • County car may also be available which would involve a license review, physical, and drug screening.
Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of personnel.
