Qualifications

• Acceptable prior teaching experience as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Instructs homebound students outside the school setting in an appropriate facility or via virtual means.
• Develops IEPs where applicable.
• Supports case management across eligibility, reevaluation, IEPs, FBAs and BIPs.
• Provides instructional program with appropriate aids and materials.
• Reports student progress in line with division practices.
• Coordinates with division staff for returning students to regular or other programs.
• Meets students on agreed schedules for instruction.
• Maintains cooperative relationships with families.
• Keeps up-to-date knowledge of division technology.

Job Description

SCPS is seeking a Homebound Instructor to instruct students who are unable to attend school and ensures that homebound students benefit from an ongoing educational program. This position ensures continuity of education by delivering lessons in alignment with the student's curriculum, maintaining communication with classroom teachers, and tracking academic progress. Instruction may take place in the home, a public location, or virtually, based on student needs and division guidelines.

Essential Job Functions:

• Provides instruction to homebound students outside the school setting in a facility appropriate to the student's needs.
• Develops a student's Individualized Education Program (IEP), if applicable.
• Supports case management of students assigned to all aspects of the special education process - eligibility, reevaluation, IEP development, functional behavioral assessments (FBAs), and behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
• Provides the instructional program for the student including appropriate aids and materials.
• Provides, in cooperation with school personnel, periodic reports on the student's progress in a manner consistent with the reporting practices of the division.
• Coordinates with division personnel in the successful return of the student to the regular education program or another special education program.
• Meets the assigned student on an agreed upon schedule for the purpose of instruction.
• Establishes a cooperative, working relationship with the student's family.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of technology used within the division.

Education and Experience:

Required

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university -OR- currently serving as an Interim Teacher with SCPS
• Ability to obtain appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board
• An acceptable rating of prior teaching experience, as applicable.

Preferred

• Currently possesses a Virginia Collegiate Professional or Postgraduate Professional License within a specific endorsement area(s)
• Prior teaching experience within a public school system
